‘Mind Your Business’ Pre-Health Professions Entrepreneurship Summit 2024
Tuesday, Oct 15, 2024Mark your calendars! The Charles E. Schmidt College of Science is set to host the 2024 Pre-Health Professions Entrepreneurship Summit from Thursday, Oct. 17 through Saturday, Oct. 19. This year’s theme, “Mind Your Business,” aims to give undergraduate students a foundational understanding about how to open, manage, and maintain a health care practice. All events will be held on the Boca Raton campus.
Over the three-day summit, the future health care providers will gain insights about how to run their own medical practice and manage a major health facility or hospital. Students will also have the unique opportunity to explore careers and network with professionals in multiple medical field specialties.
“This is an excellent platform for our students to interact with enterprising physicians and health care providers, and learn about the entrepreneurial side of health care,” stated Gina Jones, director of Office of Pre-Health Professions and Continuing Education in the Schmidt College of Science. “From our guest speakers to our panel discussion to our exciting trust-building activity, students will greatly benefit from the summit’s activities. I highly encourage interested students to attend.”
Among the three guest speakers lined up for the event is David Kaufman, M.D., a leading breast cancer surgeon in the New York area with over 20 years of experience. He is recognized as a pioneer of hidden scar breast surgery, minimally invasive breast biopsy, minimally invasive breast lump excision, intra-operative ultrasound, wireless localization, genetic testing for breast cancer, and prevention and management of lymphedema.
Joseph L. Herman, D.D.S., will also deliver a presentation. Dr. Herman is a pediatric dentist who comes from a family of dentists, and he operates a successful practice in South Florida.
The last speaker, Jose Garcia, M.D., is a strong supporter of the Schmidt College of Science. He attended Florida Atlantic before going to medical school at the University of Miami. Dr. Garcia is the CEO and founder of American Care, Inc., a multi-specialty physician group that operates 25 medical centers in Florida that serve low-income communities. His son is an alumnus of Florida Atlantic’s Schmidt College of Medicine.
