Welcome to the Environmental Science Program
The Environmental Science Program at FAU is an applied interdisciplinary field that focuses on environmental issues including natural and human-caused problems, primarily in south Florida systems ranging from the Everglades to the Atlantic. The Environmental Science (ES) Program is an interdisciplinary Charles E. Schmidt College of Science Masters degree program that emphasizes research combining expertise across many FAU centers and colleges including FAU Harbor Branch, the Center for Environmental Studies, SeaTech Institute for Ocean and Systems Engineering, and the College of Engineering and Computer Science in support of the FAU Pillar for Ocean Science and Engineering/Environmental Sciences.
Many environmental issues are a global phenomena. However, a great strength of the FAU ES Program is that our faculty leverage their expertise and the close proximity to the Everglades, estuarine, coastal, and coral reef ecosystems to provide hands on research experiences to solve real-world problems. Faculty in the ES Program reside in many participating colleges and departments, including Biological Sciences, Geosciences, Chemistry, Philosophy, Economics, Engineering, and Urban and Regional Planning.
In recognition of the breadth of the environmental science field, academic programs in Environmental Science at FAU are based on a broad curriculum that gives students the flexibility to select courses, in consultation with their advisor, that are optimum for their particular subdiscipline. This flexible approach allows students to master the specialized skills needed for competitive jobs and advanced graduate degree programs. Academic programs include a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Graduate Certificate in Environmental Restoration, Integrative Biology Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Biology to Master of Science in Environmental Science, and an Undergraduate Certificate in Environmental Science.
