Our Mission
The Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology is a community of scholars focusing on the preparation and support of leaders and researchers in Florida, the nation, and the international community.
Our Program Emphasis
The Higher Education Leadership Program at FAU prepares leaders in higher education for the core missions of teaching, research, and service. Our program prepares individuals in leadership positions in community colleges, state colleges, universities, agencies, and proprietary colleges and universities.
Areas of emphasis include:
- university leadership,
- community college and state college leadership,
- student affairs leadership,
- instructional leadership,
- foundations of higher education, and
- higher education policy.
The program of study is organized around the following domains:
- leadership and management,
- higher education foundations, and
- research methodology.
Our Students
Students currently hold or aspire to hold senior leadership positions in a variety of sectors including public, private, and for-profit institutions. Nearly 80% of our students take classes at night, on weekends, and online to accommodate their professional schedules.
Graduate Positions in Higher Education
Graduate assistantship opportunities are available to graduate students interested in higher education administration and research. Full-time, degree-seeking enrollment status is required. Compensation includes stipend funding for the length of the appointment. Limited competitive fellowships are also available. Specialized graduate student worker positions, within the area of student affairs, are available in the various departments of the Division of Student Affairs. These positions provide opportunities for graduate students to experience student affairs work on a university campus.
